Joachim Høst (1970) lives and works in Copenhagen.
I have a desire to do something. Don't know what it is - but I'm driven to do it. I have this infinite belief in it. It's not rational - it's blind trust.
Høst's work is driven by his interests in interdependency and point of balance. His works circles around a conceptual approach of embracing the opposites. Rarely without a humorous layer to it.
Høst grew up in a creative family (dad was a hippie rockstar, Alrune Rod) and went to the International school of Denmark – unfortunately he was expelled because he could not sit still. He took art classes at Glyptotek in Copenhagen. Here he could use his hands and his crooked thoughts.
He also graduated “Journalism for radio- and TV talent” at the Danish School of Media and Journalism doing his time at DR B&U as a concept developer, before deciding it was time to hit the film industry.
As a film director based in Amsterdam CCCP/CZAR, he has worked with commercials, music videos, short films, and art projects most places in the world. He has won honors for his work at – True Awards, Cannes Lions, Cresta Awards and Television-Nordic.
In the meantime he co-founded Railo'Rama. "Let's take the Zoetrope (the first optical toy that created motion pictures) and build it as a 1.5 x 600 meter long light box.
Put it on the walls between two metro stations and thereby create "a moving picture view" for the train passengers" Got 2.5 million DKK from Danish Technological Institute and The Egmont Fond. The system developed in collaboration with the engineers, mock-up was built and on the closed path of Sporvejs Museet it made proof of concept.
DSB and BaneDanmark gave "go" on the tunnel stretch between Østerport and Nørreport.
NIke, Lego, DanskeSpil and Carlsberg gave indications about the purchase of advertising space. International outdoor media company, saw the medium, bought it and filed Railo'Rama.... The project was a issue of their roll-out of tv screens in the city trains.

DERFOR kortfilm af Jacob Riis om Høst og hans tilgang til sit arbejde og kunstneriske greb.
Filmen er produceret i 2020 og med musik af Slagsmålsklubben.
